All is Full of Love

Remember back in 1999 when Björk released that track 'All is Full of Love' ? At that time I was about to begin my dedication to Yoga as a path to liberation. I happened upon that track again today for the first time in more than 20 years. I'm struck by the philosophical content of the lyrics:

You'll be given love * You'll be taken care of * You'll be given love * You have to trust it

Maybe not from the sources * You have poured yours * Maybe not from the directions * You are staring at

Twist your head around * It's all around you

All is full of love * All around you * You just ain't receiving * Your phone is off the hook * Your doors are all shut

All is full of love * All is full of love * All is full of love

I notice in students as well as myself that we are often encouraged to be 'good' at exhaling - learning to sigh to release tension, extending the exhale to bring the nervous system to a calmer state etc. This is all good but without the ability to fully receive an inhale sans tension in the body/mind, we stay in survival struggle (and by the way I'm recalling how many times I've said 'take an inhale' in class - rather than 'allow yourself to receive an inhalation').

Perhaps start to really notice yourself receiving breath - right now let yourself sit/lie down in trust, allow yourself to know and feel that you are deserving of the beauty and nourishment that is this gift of Life, that is breath, (taken care of by prana Shakti) and that you are this too.

At first, as you really notice the inhale being offered to you, you may resist or grab onto it. Know and trust that you will be given this gift of breath. Open all your doors and windows and be restored by the simple and wonder-filled act of receiving breath. That place that is Full of Love.

As you begin to fall in love with this gift of breath in time you might just fall in Love with offering your out-breath back to Life.

If any of this sounds like soft and fluffy crap to you, come over to class and less have a chat and a practice to embody and feel into it all!
